Although the road to true love never runs smoothly, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. Blending song, ballet and “hoe-down” stepping, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s initial collaboration features among its musical highlights “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” “Many a New Day,” “Kansas City” and the triumphant song of the brand new state, “Oklahoma!”

New York salutes Hollywood in this affectionate spoof of the Busby Berkeley-Harry Warren and Al Dubin-Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler-style film musical of the ’30s. It’s big-time New York into which sweet little Ruby from faraway Hometown, USA, has come to make it big on Broadway. Who should she chance to meet but another boy from Hometown, USA: Dick, a sailor, who also has ambitions as a songwriter. Ruby begins in the chorus and, by the end of the day, in true Hollywood fashion, Dick saves her doomed Broadway show with a smash tune, as Ruby becomes a star on the deck of a battleship which just happens to be passing by. A pastiche of 1930s musicals, the show’s atmosphere and songs reflect a good-natured send-up of the real thing.

When an attempt to restore the proper holiday spirit with a forlorn little Christmas fir tree fails, he needs Linus’ help to discover the real meaning of Christmas.

“Ah, what fools these mortals be!” Whimsically adapted from Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy by Wade Bradford and Rachel Greenlee, this musical features the usual magical forest and spellbound lovers, but also an upstart Puck who decides to liven things up by modernizing the dialogue and adding song and dance numbers. It’s all fun and games until William Shakespeare, fresh from spinning in his grave, leaps onto the stage, demanding to know what on earth is going on! Although this musical version may be a bit more madcap than what the Bard had intended, this show still captures the wonder and the romance of the original play.
