It’s Opening Night!! We are set to open our 1st musical of the New Year tonight, February 11, 2011. As always, the Roxy is encouraging you to participate in our “Pay-what-you-can” night for one night only, TONIGHT!
It has once again been a busy week here at the Roxy. We just wrapped rehearsals for Ain’t Misbehavin’ this afternoon and I must say the Clarksville audiences are in for quite a treat. When Tom Thayer and I began to talk about set ideas back in late October, we tossed around several different options. One of those being a backstage look at the cast of Ain’t Misbehavin. Well, I took that idea and ran with it. On a snowy night in November, the cast of Around the World in 80 Days sat across the street at The Front Page Deli, I sat with a pen and s bar napkin playing with ideas for the set. Oddly enough, what you see in front of your eyes at the Roxy is pretty much exactly what I envisioned that night with bar napkin and a pen.
This week has been a rough one for the Roxy. We were scheduled to have 9 day time performances of Once Upon a Time but due to mother nature and school closings, we had to cancel all 9 performances. Even though these cancellations don’t help the Roxy wallet, we were able to get in more rehearsal time for Ain’t Misbehavin.
This week was a time to put all the finishing touches on the show. We worked with costumes, props, the set and many more elements to make it as time period appropriate as possible. While the Vagina Monologues took place upstairs, John, Kendall, Travis and I worked on painting the dressing room and stage floors. After finding several Harlem Renaissance posters, the lovely Katie printed them off to be affixed to the dressing room walls.
Last night, we were able to have preview performance for the Keller Williams’ Air Assault Team. Hosted by Mark and Valerie Hunter-Kelly, we were fortunate enough to have a packed house for the cast. It was a great way to get the opening night jitters out!
Tomorrow night, Saturday, February 12, we will be hosting our 6 annual “Martini’s With…” night. It is a great way to spend the Valentine holiday. We will have our viper martini bar flowing as well as fantastic “soul-food” catered by Lovin’ Spoonful. Tickets are still available for this event.
In closing, I would like to direct you to our weekly video series with Treva Sanders Gordon of Convenient Shopper. The Roxy has taken up a partnership with the magazine to continue to spread the news about the exciting things happening at the theatre.
We hope to see you at the theatre for the spectacular run of Ain’t Misbehavin’.
