Roxy Reads:
Safe Sex

[Mainstage]

7pm February 22

Take a break from our full-size mainstage productions and join us as we continue our Roxy Reads series with a reading of SAFE SEX by Harvey Fierstein. This is the perfect opportunity to sit back and listen to what makes great plays work: the story.

Two recently reconciled male lovers confront the challenge of their on-again, off-again relationship in the time of AIDS. Ghee, an aging, congenial gay man, may be using guidelines for safe sex as an excuse for his fading sex drive. This dismays Mead, a virile and no-nonsense blue-collar type. The emotional seesaw of their interactions creates the compelling dynamics of this fascinating short piece.

Stick around after the reading for a talkback with our company of actors. We will discuss your thoughts, impressions and analysis of the selected work, and then our professional company will weigh in with their opinions to create a dialogue about each piece.
