As I write this I can’t stop thinking where does the time go?! The past two months have been a whirlwind of rehearsals, performances, and auditions. With moments of tears, laughter, anxiety, laughter, frustration, laughter, anger, laughter, panic-attack’s, laughter…SUCCESS!!!!
I am pleased to announce that I have booked theatre work for a solid year. I’ve spent the last 3 weeks negotiating contracts over the phone and by email and today I confirmed the last job . I also managed to keep Christmas free ( Mom will be happy). At this point your probable saying “Keith how the hell did you do that?” well, I gonna tell you…Video submission’s and UPTA. Many companies are unable to attend New York audition’s for many different reasons and accept video submission’s. Submit a cover letter, picture/resume, and a video reel (reference and reviews also help). Submit appropriate material based on the show you are interested in being considered for. In most cases email submission’s are accepted as are audition reels via on line services such as youtube, personal websites, as well hard copy DVD’S. Always include links in your message.
UPTA (Unified Professional Theatre Auditions) is a combined audtion held every February in Memphis, Tennessee. Bringing together year-round professional actors, producers, directors, and technicians. These auditions offer actors access to 85-100 quality paying theatres. The audition process will happen in one day. Your 90-second audition will be during the day. Your dance audition callbacks and acting callbacks for the companies will occur that afternoon and evening. The next day, it starts all over again for folks auditioning on that day.
I’ve been listening and reading the scripts for the show’s I will be doing (The Full Monty, Little Shop of Horrors, Chicago, Dreamgirls, and Damn Yankees) and it’s going to be an exciting year.
I feel incredible blessed to have so many great opportunities . It’s great to wake up each morning knowing I have a job I’m passionate about and love. To be gainfully employed in an area of work you love is truly a blessing.
