Freedom!! Freedom!!! Freedom is the cry of Frederick Douglass, a black man born of a white man and black slave. Civil War, the Musical is a dramatic depiction of life for civilians, slaves and soldiers during the Civil War. It was time of great loss for the quest of Freedom. Personally, I am honored to play the role of Bessie Toler, a woman sold into slavery and separated from her husband. Bessie Toler gave birth to thirteen children by her Massa and was never afforded the opportunity to “mother” them.

Her life of depression and degradation is prevalent throughout this production. Initially, I was extremely challenged by the role. My journey of characterization began with research and understanding the live of slaves during this time from. Slaves were taken away from their families during this time particularly in the South and it created such a tremendous divide. While I am saddened by the unfortunate history of my race, I realize their sacrifice paved the way for the freedom I am afforded today.

I’m honored to be a part of a great cast! I began my creative journey into the Arts at the tender age of 8. I discovered my passion for Performing Arts as I began to understand the magnitude of its impact of the lives of others. I enjoy being on stage, I believe I was born for this reason. Life is about fulfilling “purpose” and Theatre Arts is an opportunity for me to raise my “voice” and make a difference. I am grateful for such an awesome life purpose!!!

Thanks Tom and John for the warm welcome to sunny Clarksville, TN!!
