Well, it is official; our spring season is underway, as rehearsals for Hamlet began this week. Up until this point, we have just had the Ain’t Misbehavin’ cast here at the Roxy and just focusing on that show and the Children’s show. But now, the Roxy becomes like that of a true repertory company. We are rehearsing Hamlet by day and performing Ain’t Misbehavin’ by night. I must say, Keith Patrick McCoy is doing a great job juggling the two.
I am thankful for the last two weeks of not being in rehearsal, as I have much more time to focus on the fundraising and development side of my job. Every night of Ain’t Misbehavin’, you can find me in my office working on getting letters for corporate support, building fund support and trying to think of everything I can to make this theatre continue to be the success it always has been.
Our next phase of our fundraising is coming up in April at the home of Jimmy and Lena Orgain. We are calling it Mint Juleps and Gershwin at High Meadow. While working on this event I have come to realize many different sides of fundraising I never thought of before. My newest discovery for myself is that every person has his own baby steps to becoming involved in the current building project. The “grass-roots” group, their first baby step should be buying a ticket to a show at $20 and hopefully telling someone about the theatre and returning themselves. The first baby step for the group attending the Gershwin event will be to buy a ticket to that function.
This is the last weekend of Ain’t Misbehavin. Friday and Saturday at 8pm. We open Hamlet next weekend with our “pay-what-you-can” night on Friday, March 11.
